The Story Behind
Brain Candy Art
Brain Candy Art is a surreal collage project blending layered textures, emotional storytelling, and bold yet human color. Each piece reflects an energy shift — from joy and chaos to memory, dream logic, and absurdity.
The Artist
Maura Lucchese was raised in Cocoa Beach and mentored by her father—a senior design engineer for the Space Program. Maura was pushed to find excellence in art to match her active mind. She was formally trained by RL Lewis, a legendary Florida Highwayman, before carving her own path in the 90s Seattle Grunge scene.
Maura Lucchese — Artist & Creator
Following a life-altering brain and spinal cord injury, Maura turned to art as a vessel for recovery. Her unique, emotional portraits have been noticed by art lovers worldwide. Her philosophy is to use the full complement of human emotion as an agent for positive change, using art to educate, entertain, and edify our culture.
The Process
Our work is focused on capturing a singular, strong feeling. Using recycled magazines and varnish on stretched canvas, each meticulous piece takes between 350–400 hours of work to complete.
